British Airways Announces New Flights to Tbilisi
British Airways has recently unveiled plans to reintroduce flights to Tbilisi, Georgia, starting from March 30, 2025. These flights, departing from London-Heathrow Airport (LHR), will operate four times a week, enhancing connections between the United Kingdom and Georgia. This decision follows a hiatus since their last service to Tbilisi in 2013. The flights are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, aiming primarily at the leisure market and individuals traveling to visit friends and family.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, emphasized the anticipated popularity of this route, acknowledging the significant recovery of the leisure travel market since 2019. The flights will feature two classes of service: Club Europe (business class) and Euro Traveller (economy class), catering to a range of passenger needs. The Georgian government has expressed enthusiasm about this development, recognizing it as a significant boost to the country’s visibility and connectivity, particularly with strategic partners like the USA.
The outbound flight (BA890) will leave Heathrow at 21:25 local time and arrive in Tbilisi at 05:30 the following morning, ensuring a comfortable travel schedule for passengers. The return flight (BA891) departs from Tbilisi early in the morning and arrives in London mid-morning, facilitating convenient onward travel for international passengers.
easyJet Steers Competitive Route to Tbilisi from Luton
On the same day, easyJet also announced the launch of its new service to Tbilisi, beginning in April 2025. Unlike British Airways, easyJet will operate from London-Luton Airport (LTN), with flights on Tuesdays and Fridays. This route marks the first budget airline connection between the UK and Georgia since Wizz Air ceased operations in 2020. The service is designed to provide affordable travel options, promoting tourism and business exchanges between the two nations.
The easyJet flights will depart Luton midday and arrive in Tbilisi in the late evening, which is ideal for travelers looking to make the most of their time in Georgia. The return flights are similarly scheduled to maximize convenience for travelers returning to the UK. This service will also facilitate connections to further destinations in Central Asia and China, enhancing the airline’s network and offering more travel opportunities to its customers.
Both British Airways and easyJet’s new routes to Tbilisi promise to bolster the cultural and economic ties between the UK and Georgia, providing travelers with more options and flexibility for their journeys. The introduction of these flights is timely, considering the increasing interest in Georgia as a tourist destination, known for its ancient wine culture, stunning landscapes, and rich history.
