Cathay Pacific Announces New Direct Route from Hong Kong to Dallas-Fort Worth

Cathay Pacific, the flagship airline of Hong Kong, has officially announced the introduction of a new direct flight connecting Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW) in Texas, USA. This strategic expansion marks the first direct connection offered by Hong Kong’s premier airline to this major American city, starting from April 24, 2025.

The new route will significantly enhance Cathay Pacific’s network in North America, bringing the total to eight destinations across the continent. This addition underscores the airline’s commitment to bolstering the global connectivity of its hub in Hong Kong, further establishing the city as a central international aviation hub.

Flight Details and Aircraft Configuration

The newly announced route will cover a distance of approximately 8,123 miles (12,996 km), and is set to operate four times weekly. The designated flight numbers are CX898 and CX897 for the outbound and return journeys, respectively. Flights from Hong Kong are scheduled for departure at 16:05 local time, arriving in Dallas at 17:55 on the same day. The return flights will leave Dallas at 23:55, landing in Hong Kong two days later at 05:05. All flights will be operated using the airline’s fleet of Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, featuring a three-class layout with 46 business class, 32 premium economy, and 256 economy class seats.

Enhancing Global and Regional Connectivity

Lavinia Lau, Cathay Group’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of the new service. Lau stated, “With our deep roots in Hong Kong, and as a part of China, this new route enables Cathay to further connect the world, enhancing both our position and the connectivity of Hong Kong.” She also highlighted that Dallas Fort Worth International Airport serves as a major hub, with connections to over 190 domestic destinations in the United States and 11 destinations in Central and South America, which aligns with Cathay’s objectives in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Expansion of North American and Cargo Services

In addition to the Dallas route, Cathay Pacific is set to increase frequencies across its North American network throughout 2025. By May 2025, the airline plans to operate 108 return flights per week, including up to three daily flights to New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, daily flights to Boston and Chicago, and expanded services to Canada. Cathay Cargo will also supplement passenger services with increased freight operations, signaling robust growth in both passenger and cargo sectors.
