JetSMART’s Commitment to Sustainable and Efficient Flight Operations
JetSMART, the Chilean-based ultra low-cost carrier, has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable aviation by selecting Pratt & Whitney to power an additional 35 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. This announcement, made on February 21, 2024, during the Singapore Airshow 2024, underscores JetSMART’s dedication to environmentally friendly and efficient flight operations. The selection includes nine Airbus A321XLR aircraft, all of which will be equipped with the Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engine, known for its exceptional fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
The decision to expand its fleet with these engines aligns with JetSMART’s ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC) model, which emphasizes low fares without compromising on environmental responsibility. CEO Estuardo Ortiz highlighted the engines’ ability to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20%, alongside a 75% smaller noise footprint. This strategic choice not only benefits the environment but also enhances the flying experience for JetSMART’s customers by minimizing noise pollution.
Pratt & Whitney’s Role in JetSMART’s Expansion
Pratt & Whitney and JetSMART are strengthening their partnership with this new agreement, which also includes a comprehensive EngineWise service agreement for GTF engine maintenance. This collaboration is pivotal for JetSMART’s ambitions to expand its presence in the Latin American market. The GTF engines offer unparalleled fuel efficiency, payload, and range capabilities, enabling JetSMART to inaugurate new routes across South America. This expansion strategy is geared towards connecting more people across the continent, facilitating travel with lower fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions.
Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, expressed enthusiasm about building upon the collaboration with JetSMART. He emphasized how the GTF engines would play a crucial role in JetSMART’s ability to launch new routes and transport more passengers efficiently and sustainably. The partnership between JetSMART and Pratt & Whitney is a testament to both companies’ commitment to innovation and sustainability in the aviation industry.
