Norwegian Air, a leading low-cost carrier, has reported a significant uptick in its passenger numbers for August 2024, nearing the 2.7 million mark. The carrier, along with its regional affiliate Widerøe, collectively transported 2,710,424 passengers. This number represents a 10% increase compared to August 2023, showcasing a continuing positive trend in the airline’s recovery and growth trajectory.

The airline’s overall capacity for August 2024, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), was 3,899 million seat kilometers, marking an 11% increase from the previous year. Similarly, the Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs) also rose by 11% to reach 3,341 million seat kilometers. These figures underline a robust expansion in operations, matching the rising passenger demand effectively.

Norwegian achieved an 85.7% load factor, a slight improvement of 0.4 percentage points over August 2023. The completion rate was notably high at 99.5%, indicating that nearly all scheduled flights were successfully operated. Despite a slight dip in punctuality, with 76.5% of flights departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled departure times, a decrease of 5.9% from the previous year, the airline maintained a strong performance with 95.9% of flights arriving within 60 minutes of the scheduled arrival time.

Widerøe’s Performance and Fleet Composition

Widerøe, Norwegian’s regional partner, also demonstrated growth, with an 8% increase in passenger numbers compared to August 2023. The carrier’s capacity stood at 194 million ASKs, with actual passenger traffic at 148 million RPKs. This resulted in a load factor of 76.5%, which is an increase of 3.9 percentage points from the previous year. Widerøe operates a diverse fleet comprising 46 De Havilland Canada DHC-8 turboprops and three 110-seat Embraer E190-E2 regional jets, focusing on efficiency and regional connectivity.

Looking ahead, Norwegian Air is experiencing strong booking momentum for the upcoming autumn and winter seasons of 2024/25.
