Oneworld Alliance Welcomes New Members in 2025

The Oneworld alliance, a premier global airline network, is poised to significantly expand its reach and service offerings in 2025. This expansion will be marked by the inclusion of two full member airlines, enhancing the alliance’s connectivity and strategic positioning in the global aviation market. Oneworld, established in 1999 by industry leaders including American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, has grown significantly over the decades. Recent members such as Alaska Airlines and Royal Air Maroc have already added substantial value to the alliance’s network.

The first new member set to join in 2025 is Muscat-based Oman Air. Scheduled to become the 14th full member on June 30, 2025, Oman Air is strategically enhancing its fleet with the addition of two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in 2024. This expansion supports its broader growth strategy, including potential resumption of services to key destinations like Singapore. Prior to its official membership, Oman Air has established a preliminary partnership with Qantas, facilitating beneficial codeshare agreements that extend the reach of both airlines.

Following closely, Fiji Airways is set to join as the 15th full member later in the same year. Fiji Airways has been part of the Oneworld network as a Oneworld Connect partner and has fostered strong ties with existing alliance members over the past five years. These partnerships have been instrumental in setting the stage for its full membership. Fiji Airways, headquartered at Nadi International Airport, operates a diverse fleet and connects to multiple Oneworld hubs, enhancing the alliance’s network in the Pacific region.

Future Expansion and Strategic Developments

Looking beyond 2025, Oneworld anticipates further expansion with several airlines expressing interest in joining the alliance. Notably, Hawaiian Airlines, following its acquisition by Oneworld member Alaska Airlines, is expected to announce its intentions to join the alliance. This merger will create a more robust operational base for both brands, strengthening their market presence across strategic locations.

Additionally, Starlux Airlines of Taiwan, which commenced operations in 2020, is considering alliance membership to enhance its competitive edge in East Asia. Joining Oneworld could provide significant strategic benefits, including increased customer reach and improved operational synergies with other member airlines.

Another potential future member is TAP Air Portugal, especially if the ongoing acquisition efforts by the International Airlines Group (IAG) are successful. Joining Oneworld would align TAP Air Portugal with some of the world’s leading airlines, facilitating access to a global network and enhancing its operational capabilities.
