Introduction to PLD Space

The Launch of MIURA Next Series

In a bold move to expand its capabilities, PLD Space introduced the MIURA Next series, which includes three different sizes: MIURA Next, MIURA Next Heavy, and MIURA Next Super Heavy. Scheduled for flight testing in 2030, MIURA Next represents a significant leap in payload capacity and mission versatility. The largest in the series, MIURA Next Super Heavy, is designed to carry payloads up to 50 tons and is capable of undertaking complex missions to the Moon and Mars. Depending on the mission’s destination, the payloads can vary from 16 tons for lunar missions to 13 tons for Martian endeavors. The recoverable versions of these launchers will have a reduced payload capacity but will offer significant cost savings and sustainability benefits.

Europe’s First Private Manned Capsule: LINCE

In an unprecedented development, PLD Space is also venturing into manned space missions with the development of LINCE, the first manned capsule from a private European company. This 8m3 capsule is designed to transport humans to space and return them safely to Earth. Initial testing of LINCE is set to begin in 2025, with an unmanned test flight planned for 2028 using a MIURA 5 rocket. The goal is to achieve the first orbital flight by 2030, marking a significant milestone in European private space travel.

Expanding Industrial Capabilities

To support these ambitious projects, PLD Space is expanding its industrial facilities in Elx. By 2025, the facility is expected to produce up to six MIURA 5 launchers and 60 TEPREL-C engines annually, demonstrating the company’s commitment to scaling up production to meet future demands.
