Introduction to Porter Airlines’ Expansion

Porter Airlines, a renowned Canadian carrier, has announced a significant expansion in the Greater New York area by launching a new year-round service to LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Starting May 1, 2025, Porter will offer up to three daily roundtrip flights from Toronto-Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to LaGuardia, strategically positioned east of Manhattan Island. This expansion aims to enhance connectivity and convenience for travelers commuting between Canada and the United States.

Details of the New Service

The newly introduced flights will utilize LaGuardia’s Terminal B, which has recently benefited from a $5.1 billion redevelopment. This terminal now boasts modern facilities that promise an enhanced passenger experience. Porter’s choice of aircraft for this route will be its 43-strong fleet of Embraer E195-E2 regional jets. Each jet, with 132 seats arranged in a comfortable 2-2 configuration, will provide passengers with complimentary unlimited internet access, ensuring a pleasant journey.

The initial flight schedule is as follows: outbound flights from Toronto will depart at 07:15, 14:50, and 19:25 (except Saturdays), and arrive in New York at 08:55, 16:30, and 21:05, respectively. Return flights from LaGuardia are scheduled at 06:15 (except Saturdays), 09:55, and 17:30, with arrivals in Toronto at 07:55, 11:35, and 19:10. This new route covers a great circle distance of 357 miles (571km).

Strategic Benefits and Partnerships

In a strategic move to enhance its network, Porter Airlines will link these new services to its extensive domestic network at Toronto Pearson, facilitating convenient connections to key Canadian cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. Furthermore, through an interline partnership with JetBlue, passengers will benefit from numerous onward connections at LGA across the southern US, thereby significantly enhancing the travel options available to Porter’s customers.

This addition is set to complement Porter’s existing operations at Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR), where the airline has been active since 2008. Initially serving the New York-New Jersey market from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), Porter has, as of 2023, expanded its service from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) to Newark. The combined services will provide up to 15 daily roundtrips between the New York area and Toronto’s airport network, catering to both business and leisure travelers seeking efficient and comfortable air travel solutions.

Executive Comments

Andrew Pierce, Vice President of Network Planning and Reporting at Porter Airlines, expressed enthusiasm for the new routes, stating, “The addition of LaGuardia introduces a new dimension to our network, opening more options for existing customers and the ability to attract new ones within the busiest air service corridor connecting Canada and the US.” Similarly, Suzette Noble, CEO of LaGuardia Gateway Partners, highlighted the partnership’s focus on exceptional customer service, and Tony Vero, General Manager at LaGuardia Airport, emphasized the opportunity this service presents in linking two dynamic cities and enhancing the overall travel experience.
