Introduction of SuperNova Airlines

SuperNova Airlines, a progressive Ukrainian cargo airline founded in 2021 during the tumultuous period of the Russian invasion, represents a significant stride in the Ukrainian aviation industry. Operating under the aegis of Nova Poshta, Ukraine’s leading postal and courier service, SuperNova Airlines was certified in January 2023, showcasing resilience by achieving this milestone under wartime conditions. CEO Yaroslav Krasnozhon remarked on the achievement, emphasizing it as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian people and a beacon encouraging investment in Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict.

Acquisition and Preparation of the Boeing 737-800BDSF

The airline recently celebrated the acquisition of its first Boeing 737-800BDSF, a converted model facilitated by BeDek, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The aircraft, managed by lessor World Star Aviation, arrived following its conversion and was integrated into SuperNova’s fleet with its registration finalized as UR-NPA. This significant addition underwent a technical flight from Guangzhou, China, to Vilnius, Lithuania, in August 2024, signaling readiness for operational deployment.

According to SuperNova representatives, the detailed process of adding the Boeing 737-800SF to the ‘Operation Specifications’ was completed on September 27, 2024. The aircraft is stationed at Vilnius International Airport and is poised to commence commercial operations later in the year. While awaiting permits for flights in European countries and the USA, SuperNova is equipped to begin charter operations in regions where a Ukrainian operator’s certificate is recognized.

Operational Challenges and Future Ambitions

The introduction of commercial flights is currently limited to non-EU countries due to the ongoing conflict, which has led to the closure of Ukrainian airspace. SuperNova’s operational strategy involves leveraging airports such as Boryspil and Lviv once peace is restored. The CEO expressed gratitude towards the team for their dedication and highlighted their collective efforts towards making frequent use of the Nova radio-telephone call sign in air traffic communications.

The company initiated its first flight using an ATR 72-500F, leased from Latvian carrier RAF-Avia, in May 2023. This inaugural flight from Riga International Airport to Poland involved transporting seven tons of parcels, subsequently transferred by road into Ukraine, demonstrating the airline’s logistical capabilities and commitment to maintaining service delivery during challenging times.

Partnership and Support

World Star Aviation has played a crucial role in supporting SuperNova’s growth, expressing confidence in the airline’s future prospects. They commended the delivery of the Boeing 737-800BDSF as a cornerstone for the airline’s expansion and its role in linking Ukraine with the global market. The anticipation for SuperNova Airlines to thrive in the international arena is palpable among its partners and stakeholders.
