Overview of the Incident
On February 13, 2024, a devastating event unfolded in Kampung Tok Muda, Kapar in Klang, Malaysia, when a BK 160 Gabriel light aircraft crashed, leading to the tragic loss of two lives. This incident occurred at approximately 13:45 local time, casting a somber shadow over the local community and the aviation industry. The aircraft, bearing the registration I-POOC, was operated by the Air Adventure Flying Club and had embarked on a recreational flight from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB) in Subang at 13:28 local time. The last communication with air traffic control was made at 13:35, with no distress calls reported prior to the crash.
The Victims and the Investigation
The aircraft was piloted by an instructor affiliated with the recreational flying club, and the passenger was a club member. Authorities identified the victims as Daniel Yee Hsiang Khoon, 30, and Roshaan Singh Raina, 42, whose bodies were discovered in the cockpit, buried approximately two meters deep in an oil palm plantation area. The incident notably did not involve any other passengers. Preliminary reports suggest that the flight was conducted in preparation for the upcoming Singapore Airshow, scheduled from February 20 to 25, 2024. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has announced that a comprehensive investigation into this tragic incident will be carried out by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of Transport of Malaysia, aiming to uncover the circumstances leading up to the crash and to prevent future occurrences.
